The Medicare for All Act offers a comprehensive solution by implementing a universal governmental system. Specifically, it addresses hospital closures by establishing a guaranteed funding stream dedicated to services rather than profit margins. Other developed countries have such a plan and are able to keep costs down and provide better healthcare outcomes for their citizens. Patchwork Solutions will not work. They are band aids that will not solve the overriding issues that drag down our healthcare services. These patchwork initiatives retain the for-profit insurance industry.
To mobilize for this cause, National Nurses United is sponsoring a nationwide event on Thursday, July 30—the anniversary of the signing of the original Medicare Bill. During this event, we will present an open letter endorsed by over 335 organizations declaring that now is the moment for Medicare for All. Our goal is to generate significant publicity and remind our representatives that their constituents prioritize these objectives. Politicians do care about votes. That’s where our power lies.
